The Tibet Travel Permit, also known as the Tibet Entry Permit, is a mandatory document issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. It contains detailed personal information of the traveler, including name, nationality, age, gender, occupation, passport number, as well as the planned itinerary and duration of stay in Tibet. The Tibet Travel Permit can be regarded as a special entry permit; only travelers in possession of this permit are legally allowed to visit the Tibet Autonomous Region.

So, who exactly needs to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit?
  • Foreign tourists (non-Chinese passport holders): Regardless of whether you are of Chinese descent or not, if you do not hold a Chinese mainland Resident Identity Card or a People's Republic of China passport, you are required to apply for the permit in accordance with relevant regulations before traveling to Tibet. You must present a valid Tibet Travel Permit before checking in for a flight or boarding a train to Tibet.
  • Tourists from Taiwan, China: Travelers from Taiwan also need to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit for their trip to Tibet.
