2026 Tibetan New Year Celebrations in Tibet

February 17, 2026 is China’s traditional Lunar New Year, and February 18 is the Tibetan Lunar New Year in Tibet. Therefore, visitors traveling to Xizang during this period will get to participate in a diverse range of New Year festivities.

A visit to Jokhang Temple is the highlight of the trip. You can chant scriptures with the local people, then take a clockwise stroll along Barkhor Street, and stop by the renowned sweet tea houses on the street to experience Xizang’s unique tea culture.
