he government of Xizang Autonomous Region of China has announced that most scenic spots in Xizang will be open to visitors free of charge from today until March 15, 2026. This free admission policy applies to international visitors as well, with the exception of some monasteries and temples.

Famous attractions including the Potala Palace, Nam Co Lake and Everest Base Camp are all included in the free entry program. Please note that sightseeing shuttle bus fees within these scenic areas still apply.

An interesting fact: the 2026 Tibetan New Year falls just one day after China's traditional Spring Festival. Can you believe it? China's Spring Festival is on February 17, 2026, and the Tibetan New Year is on February 18. Visiting Xizang during this period allows you to experience the rich and profound traditional cultures of both the Zang and Han ethnic groups.
